Recently, Indonesia's Ministry of Trade said that China's demand for Indonesian durian goods is high, and the total demand is expected to reach $8 billion by 2024.
Didi Sumedi, director of the National Export Development Agency of the Ministry of Trade, said that China's demand for durian continues to grow every year.In 2022, China's demand for durian reached $2 billion, increasing to $6 billion in 2023.
"That's a pretty big demand, even in China it can reach $8 billion, durian alone. That's that much demand," he said in Jakarta.
He said that durian is one of the main commodities for fruit products.
He believes that plantation owners can use this opportunity to improve the quality of durian.
In recent years, plantation owners have also started to actively grow various types of durian, from Montong to Musang King.
In China, the most popular type of durian is the Mengtong type. Currently, the Ministry of Trade and relevant ministries are working on the development of local durians.
"We are developing local montong in various areas, such as in Central Jaw province, there is a Bawor, which is a combination of montong and local durian," he claimed.
However, he added, durian is not yet the highest-grossing fruit commodity.
It is said that there are other exotic fruit commodities in Indonesia, such as pineapples, bananas, avocados, and mangosteens, which are also popular with foreign markets.
In addition to China, there is also demand for Indonesian fruits in Japan, Australia and other Asian regions.
